Service Interval Warning Light - Reset Information

These servicing warning lights are normally reset (turned off) by the main dealer once they have finished servicing your vehicle.

If you have just serviced your vehicle yourself, or had it serviced in a local garage you may find that the 'service interval warning light' still needs to be reset to turned the light off.

Volvo S40 & V40 - 1999 

Switch ignition on.

Keep button [A]  for approximately 12 seconds depressed until the service interval indicator flashes .

Release button [A] within 4 seconds, there will be an audible signal when the reset is complete and the service interval indicator will go out.

If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds, the service interval indicator will not be reset but will stop flashing.

Switch ignition off.


Volvo S40 & V40 - 2000 to 2004

Switch ignition off.

Keep button [A] 

Switch ignition on.

Keep button [A] depressed for approximately 12 seconds until the service interval indicator flashes.

Release button [A] within 4 seconds, there will be an audible signal when the reset is complete and the service interval indicator will go out.

If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds, the service interval indicator will not be reset but will stop flashing.

Switch ignition off.


Volvo S40 & V40 - 2003 to 2007

Ensure all doors are closed, turn ignition key to position I.

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turn ignition key to position II (within 2 seconds).

Keep button [A] depressed until service message has been reset. A yellow warning light [B] will illuminate when it is time to release button [A].

Release button [A] within 4 seconds, there will be an audible signal when the reset is complete.

If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds, the service interval indicator will not be reset.


Volvo S60 & S80 - 1998 to 2003

Ensure all doors are closed, turn ignition key to position I.

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turn ignition key to position II (within 2 seconds).

Keep button [A] depressed until service interval indicator flashes (approximately 10 seconds).

Release button [A] within 5 seconds, there will be an audible signal when the reset is complete and the service interval indicator will go out.

If the reset button is not released within 5 seconds, the service interval indicator will not be reset but will stop flashing.


Volvo S60 & S80 - 2003 to 2007

Ensure all doors are closed, turn ignition key to position I.

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turn ignition key to position II (within 2 seconds).

Keep button [A] depressed until the trip meter is reset to 0.

Note: If the trip meter has already been reset, hold reset button [A] for 10 to 14 seconds until the previous trip meter reading is showing, then press and hold reset button [A] until the trip meter is reset to 0.

MY 2003 Onwards: A yellow warning light will illuminate when it is time to release button [A]

Release button [A] within 4 seconds, there will be an audible signal when the reset is complete.

If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds, the service interval indicator will not be reset.


Volvo V50 - 2004 to 2007

Ensure all doors are closed, turn ignition key to position I.

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turn ignition key to position II (within 2 seconds).

Keep button [A] depressed until service message has been reset. A yellow warning light [B] will illuminate when it is time to release button [A].

Release button [A] within 4 seconds, there will be an audible signal when the reset is complete.

If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds, the service interval indicator will not be reset.


Volvo S70 & V70 - 1999 to 2000

Switch off the ignition.

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turning the  ignition on.

Keep button [A] depressed until service interval indicator flashes (approximately 10 seconds).

Release button [A] within 4 seconds.

If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds, the service interval indicator will not be reset.


Volvo V70 - 2000 to 2001

Ensure all doors are closed, turn ignition key to position I.

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turn ignition key to position II (within 2 seconds).

Volvo XC70 - 2002 to 2005

Ensure all doors are closed, turn ignition key to position I.

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turn ignition key to position II (within 2 seconds).

Volvo XC90 - 2002 to 2006

Press and hold reset button [A], immediately turn ignition key to position II (within 2 seconds).

Keep button [A] depressed until the trip meter is reset to 0.

Note: If the trip meter has already been reset, hold reset button [A] for 10 to 14 seconds until the previous trip meter reading is showing, then press and hold reset button [A] until the trip meter is reset to 0.

Volvo 850 - Pre 1995 with odometer below the speedometer needle

Switch ignition on.

Connect fly lead to terminal 7 on diagnostic socket which is located behind the right hand headlight.

Select function 4 by pressing button [A] 4 times.

When LED illuminates press button [A] once.

When LED illuminates press button [A] 5 times.

When LED illuminates press button [A] once.

LED should flash repeatedly to indicate code has been accepted.

Service interval indicator is extinguished.


Volvo 850 - Early 1996 with odometer above the speedometer needle

Switch ignition on.

Use a suitable tool to press button [A].

Switch ignition off.
